-THEATRE NOTES
Our first production for 2011 is a world premiere, written and directed by Benedict Hardie (The Nest, Yuri Wells, 3xSisters).
A black comedy about white terror, Delectable Shelter is a no-holds-barred portrait of the privileged, facing the end of the world as they know it.
In a bunker deep within the earth, five survivors plan a utopian society. Their dreams are lavish, their visions grand, and their aspirations (somewhat) noble. But saving the world is the easy part, the hard part will learning to share it with those they thought were beneath them. Meanwhile, a reverent choir sings classical renditions of love songs from the 1980s…
Taking cues from Moliere, Brecht and Chris Morris, Delectable Shelter lampoons the prejudice ingrained in a prosperous Western society, as it declines from dominance in the twenty-first century. A grotesque comedy of the not-too-distant future, featuring reproduction, classical music, fear and cured meats.
Theatre Works presents a Hayloft Project production, as part of the 2011 Selected Works season.
